Canoe Club News August 2005
Volume 3, Issue 2

Monday Night Canoe Club will finish 14th October and re-start on 8th May 2006

On Monday nights from 7pm we concentrate on BCU canoeing qualifications. The courses are run on a modular basis, each session concentrating on specific parts of the syllabus.

These modules are run in sequence and attendance is required at each of these modules before assessment, although the modules do not have to be completed in a specific order.

Participants personal achievement records, which record their attendance, progress and readiness for assessment is held by Cathy (booking secretary).

We no longer just offer fun sessions, although fun will still play a big part of the evenings.

Prices

Canoe Club Attendees will be charged £1.50 p/h per session for the remainder of 2005 and this will increase to £3ph per session from 2006. This fee includes the assessment when taken during club hours – a charge of £5 is made for badge and certificates when the assessment is passed.

We are looking at options to re-start the pool sessions through the winter but no firm arrangements are yet in place - WATCH THIS SPACE.

What we have achieved so far this year ....

The regular team of Darren, Mark, Cathy, Paul S and Ben have, with the help of James and Chris (Explorer Scouts), been concentrating on the Monday Canoe and the MAD Weekend.

We have been lucky to receive support from Alan Hodge, Ian Handley and our newest helper Keith Cobb without whom we would have been unable to allow the considerable increase in regular members this year. Those who have visited or attended a session will know how popular it has been!

5 Year Plan has been issued and progress so far . . .

We hope you have managed to read the plan and share it with your team. Copies are available on the site and feedback so far has been positive. Again we would stress that any support you can give to help us achieve the targets set will be gratefully received,

Site maintenance is ongoing and during the past few weeks much work has been carried out tidying up and cleaning the buildings after intensive use since May.

We have been able to run a 1* course this year, following a lead from the camp site, for 18 scouts and a fun time was had by all.

Fund raising, recruitment and planning at least one further course are our focus over the next couple of months.

If you have not already read the plan please do so and share it with your team. If you have not received a copy and would like one please contact: Cathy Mills on 07814429209 or email your details to Mallybook@aol.com.
Feedback and any ideas will be considered and welcomed. Any support you can give to help us achieve the targets set will be gratefully received.

2006 Programme

Other than the Monday night canoe club, due to lack of staff we have been unable this year (as last) to commit to any other sessions. Our aim this year is to work on recruiting staff to resolve this issue, anyone interested in helping out in any way ay the boathouse should contact Cathy on 07814429208
