Hi All,

Let me first introduce myself, I am James E Edwards or better known as Teddy, that has just taken over the District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) from Richard Sams, in the month of September 2008.

I know that I am very honoured to following Richard footsteps in supporting the district explorer units. My I thank Richard for all the hard work he has done over the last year. We have three units in the district being The Pyro, Coronation, and the County Duck’s, for children age between 14 and 18 year old.

Two of these groups, the Pyro and the Coronation both entered in the Kilburn trophy last month. The aim was to collect, make, find, dress up within a 33hour period to answer as many question as possible, to obtain the highest score. This was a County event and units from all over the county took part. On Friday 9 teams entered the competition and eight finish including the Pyro, and Coronation as well as our own Networks the Saxons. Some of the question were: - A used ticket from ‘we will rock you’, A log book from a Porsche, A receipt from the fast foot outlet by the Children of the Kindertransport between 15:00 and 15:05 on Saturday 18th October. & An edible chessboard out of jelly, are just a few. All the explorers were up most of the night make driving around London collecting these pieces of information. Well you ask yourself where did we come. Pyro’s came seven and Coronation came third with 72 points out of 100, whereby the first place was had 77 points. Well done to all teams.

Other thing that is currently happing is: buying a new District flag to be used for district/unit events, that should be with us shortly. The Swimming Gala on the 15th November whereby the Explorers will be chasing the trophy that the Pyro’s and County Duck’s won last year. I look for in see you all there. The new appointed of Richard Middleton to Young Leader Trainer, would be an asset to the young leaders within the district, which are Explorers, aged. I look forward in working with Richard on this project.
