WALTHAM FOREST SOUTH DISTRICT SCOUTS

Scout section report: - First an apology, for not getting an entry into the last District bulletin, (I’m in trouble again for getting this one in late.) I do find it difficult putting pen to paper even electronically, I always feel that it is important to speak to the leaders personally, and do have regular meetings; however there are those who due to their own reasons do not attend the regular Scout section meetings so perhaps this medium should be explored further, also the rest of the District like to know what if anything we as a section are doing.
Well I am pleased to report that the Scout section is very active. The majority of our scouts had the opportunity to experience life under canvas this summer (what summer??). And even the shortage of good weather could not dampen the spirits of the Scouts or Leaders. I know this for certain as I was asked by Gemma Mears to join them for a barbeque and to present Gold Chief Scout Awards to scouts from the 19th Walthamstow, at the Come to Tolmers (CTT) camp, which I had pleasure doing on a very wet evening. I also had the privilege to present Gold Chief Scout Awards to members of the 10th Leyton. To all that work so hard to reach these standards, Congratulations, but don’t stop there! As Explorer Scouts there are still the Platinum and Diamond Chief Scout awards, and Queens Scout awards to be earned.
A pioneering day was held at the Bulwer Road site in September which was not as well attended, as I would have liked but still successful, with even an experienced Scouter admitting that he had learnt something.
There will of course be Scouts at the District Swimming Gala on the 15th November.
We have a pool booked in January to enable the Scouts to earn their Swimmers Badge or gain the next stage.
There is a Scout Five–A-Side football tournament booked for February.
I also had the privilege to attend a couple of Explorer scout events, the Kilmure trophy and the Sedan Chair Rally camp. I like to know what the young members get up to even after they leave Scouts. I am sure that further information on these events will be given in other reports.
I look forward to seeing all Scout Leaders at the next Scout Section Meeting, the details of which should be with you by the 4th November.
For those intending celebrating Guy Fawkes Night, be safe and enjoy the night.

Leaders Required
Walthamstow Scout Section requires Males or Females to become Warranted Assistant Leaders to work with Scouts 10 to 14 years.

No experience necessary and support for training will be given. Should have a good sense of fun and enjoy working with children.
